Pensive: A Global Journal of Spirituality & the Arts

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

Pensive: A Global Journal of Spirituality & the Arts, an acclaimed online journal from Northeastern University, invites you to submit unpublished poetry, prose, visual art, and translations that express a range of religious/spiritual/humanist experiences and perspectives; deepen the inward life; envision a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world; and challenge structural oppression in all its forms. We are especially interested in work from international and historically underrepresented communities. There is no fee for submission, and we are currently a non-paying market. Submissions periods are February 1-May 15 for the Fall issue and August 1-November 15 for the Spring issue. Submit 3-5 pieces (max word count per piece: 5000) with a 3-5 sentence third-person biography, via Submittable. We welcome simultaneous submissions. We do not accept previously published work or AI/ChatGPT-generated pieces. Past contributors include Jimmy Santiago Baca, Joseph Bruchac, Martha Collins, Richard Chess, Robert Cording, Martin Espada, Annie Finch, Diane Glancy, Jeff Gundy, Richard Hoffman, Jennifer Jean, Sydney Lea, Frannie Lindsay, Sarah Maitland, Fred Marchant, D.S. Martin, MEH, Phillip Metres, Marge Piercy, Nicholas Samaras, Scott Russell Sanders, Sophia Starnes, Maya Williams, and many others. Any questions or inquiries should be directed to our Alexander Levering Kern and our editorial board at pensivejournal@gmail.com or visit www.pensivejournal.com.
